Slack MCP Connector for AI Agents

Connect Claude, ChatGPT and other AI agents to Slack over MCP: choose a Slack account, search threads, and send permitted messages in your connected workspace.

Keep each Slack login separate in ApexGenius. Choose the account for each task, or limit an AI client to one connection. Slack permissions and the tools you enable control what can run.

Why the gateway is here

It keeps the Slack authorization, tools, and activity behind the same managed route you use for your other supported systems.

Connection model

How to connect Slack.

The Slack connection belongs to your signed-in account. Any Slack-native resources stay inside that provider.

Read connection details

Before you start

  • A Slack account in each workspace and permission to authorize the app. Workspace admins may need to approve it.

1. Connect Slack to ApexGenius

  1. Open Slack in Connections. Sign in to ApexGenius, open Connections, and choose Slack.
  2. Choose the Slack user and workspace. Sign in with the intended Slack account. Check the workspace and requested access before you allow it.
Slack's page titled Allow the ApexGenius app to access Slack, with a workspace picker on the left, the list of permissions on the right, and Cancel and Allow buttons.
Connect opens Slack's own permission page. Pick the workspace, review what ApexGenius can view and do as you, then choose Allow.Open full-size image (opens in a new tab)
  3. Add your other accounts. Check the saved workspace and user. Choose Add connection and repeat for each account. Use a clear name for each connection. Reconnect signs in to the same user and workspace.
  4. Choose tools and AI access. Open Tools and Access for each connection. Start with Read only for your AI. Enable writes only when you need them. Enabled writes run when called.
  5. Try one read per account. Name the intended Slack connection in your request. Check that the result and Tool Activity show that account.

2. Choose your AI and finish setup

Each guide includes the AI setup and a first question for Slack.

Current governance

Know the account, tools, and result.

ApexGenius keeps the selected context and current tool surface visible, then records supported write activity for review.

Authorized context

Each connection identifies both the Slack user and workspace. Two users in one workspace remain separate.

Current tool surface

Private channels and DMs follow the connected user’s Slack access. ApexGenius does not add access to other users’ private conversations.

Reviewable activity

The read route refuses writes and anything not classified as a read. Enabled writes run when called.

ApexGenius uses Slack's official tools and Slack's Web API. Admin methods need a Slack org admin on Enterprise Grid. Sign-in, token and app-management methods are not available.

Why a gateway

3 operations. Three tool definitions.

Your AI starts with three ApexGenius gateway tools. It discovers the Slack operations available to its authorization when a task needs them, then runs the selected operation through the gateway.

One saved provider connection

Connect Slack to ApexGenius, then authorize each AI client to use the saved connection with its own tool permissions.

Scoped per agent

Give one client read-only and the write operations never appear in its tool list at all.

Every call on the record

Which agent asked, what ran, and whether it succeeded, kept per connection for review.

FAQ

Questions people ask before connecting Slack.

Can I connect several Slack accounts?
Each user and workspace can have its own connection. Add accounts within your connection allowance and name the account in your request.
Can it do everything my Slack account can do?
It reaches most of it. ApexGenius uses Slack's official tools plus Slack's Web API, so pins, bookmarks, reminders, user groups, channel management and message edits are included, within your Slack permissions and the access you approve. Admin methods need a Slack org admin on Enterprise Grid. Sign-in, token and app-management methods are left out.
Can my AI read private messages?
Only messages the connected Slack user can access, when Slack grants the needed permissions and the read tool is enabled.
What does setup require?
An eligible Slack app, workspace approval where required, and separate OAuth consent for each account. Slack permits official MCP access for internal apps and Marketplace-published apps.
