Atlassian Rovo MCP Connector for AI Agents

Connect your AI agents to Atlassian Rovo over MCP: search Jira and Confluence with Rovo, read issues and pages, and follow Teamwork Graph links.

Connect Atlassian's official Rovo MCP server once in ApexGenius, then search across Jira, Confluence and connected apps, read issues, boards, pages and their history, and follow Teamwork Graph links from compatible AI agents. The connection reads only, and an Atlassian organization admin allows ApexGenius first. Each AI agent needs its own ApexGenius setup.

It keeps the Atlassian Rovo authorization, tools, and activity behind the same managed route you use for your other supported systems.

Connection model

How to connect Atlassian Rovo.

The Atlassian Rovo connection belongs to your signed-in account. Any Atlassian Rovo-native resources stay inside that provider.

Read connection details

Before you start

  • An Atlassian Cloud site with Jira or Confluence, and an Atlassian account that can read the work you need.
  • An Atlassian organization admin who can change the Atlassian MCP server settings.
  • Rovo credits in your Atlassian organization. Rovo search and Teamwork Graph reads can spend up to 10 Rovo credits a call from the shared pool.

1. Connect Atlassian Rovo to ApexGenius

  1. Ask an admin to allow ApexGenius. In Atlassian Administration, an organization admin selects Connectors, then Atlassian MCP server, chooses Add domain, and enters https://server.autom8.pro/**. Atlassian stops the sign-in until this is done. If your organization uses an IP allowlist, ask ApexGenius support for the address to add.
Atlassian's public support page Control Atlassian MCP server settings, with a red box around the three Add domains steps: Atlassian Administration, Connectors then Atlassian MCP server, and Add domain.
Atlassian's own admin guide: Atlassian Administration, Connectors, Atlassian MCP server, then Add domain. Enter https://server.autom8.pro/**. This is Atlassian's public support page, so no account appears in it.Open full-size image (opens in a new tab)
  2. Open Atlassian Rovo in Connections. Choose Connect, or Add connection when offered. Give the connection a name if prompted.
  3. Choose the site and review access. Sign in to Atlassian in the browser, choose the site, and approve read access to Jira, Confluence, Rovo search and Teamwork Graph. No Atlassian API token is pasted into ApexGenius.
  4. Check the connection. Use Test connection and read the status. Add an AI agent from the AI agents page, choose Read only for the first test, and try the question below.

2. Choose your AI and finish setup

Each guide includes the AI setup and a first question for Atlassian Rovo.

Current governance

Know the account, tools, and result.

ApexGenius keeps the selected context and current tool surface visible, then records supported write activity for review.

Authorized context

Atlassian sets the boundary. One connection covers the Atlassian site you choose at sign-in and sees only what that Atlassian account can see.

Current tool surface

ApexGenius asks Atlassian for read and search scopes only, and reads use a route that checks Atlassian's own read-only label before every call. Jira and Confluence changes use the Jira and Confluence connectors.

Reviewable activity

Rovo search and Teamwork Graph calls can spend up to 10 Rovo credits each from your organization's shared pool. Listing sites spends none.

An Atlassian organization admin allows https://server.autom8.pro/** in Atlassian Administration under Connectors, then Atlassian MCP server, before anyone can connect. Removing it blocks new connections.

Why a gateway

59 operations. Three tool definitions.

Your AI starts with three ApexGenius gateway tools. It discovers the Atlassian Rovo operations available to its authorization when a task needs them, then runs the selected operation through the gateway.

One saved provider connection

Connect Atlassian Rovo to ApexGenius, then authorize each AI client to use the saved connection with its own tool permissions.

Scoped per agent

Give one client read-only and the write operations never appear in its tool list at all.

Every call on the record

Which agent asked, what ran, and whether it succeeded, kept per connection for review.

FAQ

Questions people ask before connecting Atlassian Rovo.

How do I connect Atlassian Rovo?
First, an Atlassian organization admin allows https://server.autom8.pro/** in Atlassian Administration under Connectors, then Atlassian MCP server. Then open Atlassian Rovo in ApexGenius Connections, choose Connect, sign in to Atlassian in the browser and choose the site. No API token is pasted into ApexGenius.
Why does my Atlassian admin need to add a domain?
Atlassian only sends sign-ins to domains your organization allows. Its default list covers apps such as Claude and ChatGPT, not ApexGenius. An admin adds https://server.autom8.pro/** in Atlassian Administration under Connectors, then Atlassian MCP server, with Add domain.
Can my AI change Jira issues or Confluence pages through Rovo?
No. This connection holds read and search scopes only, so Atlassian refuses changes. To create or update issues and pages, connect the Jira and Confluence connectors.
When should I use Rovo instead of the Jira or Confluence connector?
Use Rovo to search across products, to follow Teamwork Graph links between work, people and goals, and to read history, boards, versions and comments. Use the Jira and Confluence connectors for any change.
Does it spend Rovo credits?
Rovo search and the two Teamwork Graph tools can spend up to 10 Rovo credits a call from your organization's shared pool. When you know the exact filter, ask for a JQL or CQL search instead.
Does it cover Compass, Bitbucket or Loom?
Compass components show up as Teamwork Graph objects. Rovo MCP has no Compass tools of its own. Bitbucket, Loom, Goals and Projects tools are not part of this connection.
